The creator of Bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto’s impact in the year 2017 was immeasurable. Bitcoin is a decentralized cryptocurrency that has begun to challenge the power of central banks, and in particular the influence of the Federal Reserve. As fiat currencies across the globe continue to suffer from the ill fate of inflation, those concerned about their savings have started to invest in the cryptocurrency as a more viable means of protecting their assets. In 2017, Bitcoin saw a 380-fold increase in its value.

Nakamoto once stated, “Yes, [we will not find a solution to political problems in cryptography,] but we can win a major battle in the arms race and gain a new territory of freedom for several years. Governments are good at cutting off the heads of a centrally controlled networks like Napster, but pure P2P networks like Gnutella and Tor seem to be holding their own.
