Libertarian VP Bill Weld: “I’m here vouching for Mrs. Clinton”

Over the past few weeks, rumors that Libertarian Vice Presidential nominee Bill Weld secretly supports Hillary Clinton for President circulated the Internet, after Weld released a press release stating that “Donald Trump should not, cannot, and must not be elected President of the United States.” Weld had harsh words for Trump, while never stating in the press release that Americans should vote for the Libertarian nominee, Gary Johnson.

Tonight, Weld was interviewed by Rachel Maddow on MSNBC, and she pressed him further on the issue. Maddow said to Weld, “You guys don’t have a chance against Donald Trump, and if they vote you, they’re helping to elect Donald Trump. I can’t imagine that your loyalty to [the Libertarian Party] is stronger than your fear of Trump as a president.”

Weld responded, “I’m here vouching for Mrs. Clinton, and I think it’s high time somebody did. I think she deserves to have people to vouch for her other than members of the DNC, so I’m here to do that.”
