The Best Way to Fight Fascism is with Capitalism

The last few years have been a roller coaster for all political spectrums in the United States. Libertarians have been strapped to this ride and in recent times we’ve seen authoritarians from the left and right attempt to gain a foothold in Libertarian politics. A lot of this infiltration has to do with a misconception of what Libertarians stand for and because of this, many of these infiltrators are easy to spot.

To put it bluntly, Libertarianism is the political philosophy of freedom. Libertarians look to promote individual liberty, private property and voluntarism. Libertarians are critics of state overreach and general authoritarianism and because of this, Libertarians are vehemently opposed to systems like communism, socialism and fascism.

Capitalism works in a libertarian society because capitalism doesn’t interfere with personal freedom. Capitalism promotes private and corporate ownership of production and goods. This means individuals can choose whenever or not to work in any industry they please. In a capitalist system, the price of goods is set by the demand for the goods. This means that consumers control the market, if consumers want a product, producers will make the product. If consumers don’t want it, producers will stop producing the product. Because of the free will nature of capitalism, capitalism is the economic system of liberty. Free societies promote capitalism, and this upsets these authoritarian infiltrators.

So now that we’ve discussed the foundation for libertarian thought, its important to recognize where these infiltrators draw their inspiration from. Many of these infiltrators to Libertarianism will try to draw connections between libertarian philosophy and the philosophies of socialism, communism and fascism. These connections that these infiltrators try to build however are fabricated in lies and deceit of the actual meaning of Libertarianism.

Communism, socialism and fascism are all collectivist systems. In all these systems the rights of the individual are suppressed in favor of promoting the collective. Although I could go in depth about how all of these systems aren’t compatible with a system that promotes individual liberty, I will focus mainly on fascism as fascists have recently had a bone to pick with many libertarians.

Fascism is a political philosophy that promotes nation and sometimes race above individual freedom. Fascist governments are often very centralized and severely suppress economic and social freedoms. From a basic understanding of fascism, its often hard for one to see how a fascist would infiltrate libertarians who seek to promote the freest societies possible but after a closer observation. Fascist infiltration methods become very clear.

There isn’t any intelligent argument for Libertarians to promote fascism. Because of this these fascist infiltrators try to divide libertarians and Americans by tribe. Many of these fascist infiltrators will call for white nationalism as a solution to form a libertarian society. They try to focus on ridiculous strawman such as saying that the Libertarian party is overwhelmingly white which means that in order to create our libertarian paradise we need to form white ethnostates. This argument and assumption is absolutely ridiculous. Sure the libertarian party is overwhelmingly white but the Libertarian party is extremely small. Libertarians received a whopping 3% of the vote in 2016 which means without a doubt that white people overwhelmingly don’t vote for libertarians either.  This doesn’t mean that libertarian thought isn’t unpopular however, libertarian philosophy is popular, many Americans just don’t realize that they are libertarian. This is the true answer to the fascist narrative that only whites are libertarian. As libertarians we need to advertise our philosophy better, the more people that we can reach will most likely see more people turning their heads in favor of more libertarian policies.

Many of these same fascists who wrongfully state that a libertarian society requires white nationalism will also run in circles to defend many alt-right figureheads that promote socialist agendas over capitalist ones.

Richard Spencer who is arguably the most popular alt-right figurehead often takes to twitter to defend systems like socialism, communism and even takes swings at capitalism. Socialism, communism and fascism are unmistakably anti-liberty, if you ever catch yourself in an argument with a “libertarian” defending these systems and you have to ask yourself; “why would a libertarian defend these systems?” Chances are the person you’re arguing with isn’t a libertarian.
