After the recent attack on conservative journalist Andy Ngo in Portland, which left him with a brain hemorrhage, many on the right are calling on leaders in the Republican Party to declare Antifa a terrorist organization.
Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) answered the call on Thursday, and announced that he has introduced a resolution that would “properly identify what Antifa are: domestic terrorists.”
Cruz writes on Twitter, “Antifa is a terrorist organization composed of hateful, intolerant radicals who pursue their extreme agenda through aggressive violence. Time and time again their actions have demonstrated that their central purpose is to inflict harm on those who oppose their views.”
Like any terrorist organization they choose to pursue their political ends through violence, fear & intimidation. They must be stopped. I’m proud to introduce this resolution w @SenBillCassidy to properly identify what Antifa are: domestic terrorists. —> https://t.co/3qDDun7Tp3— Senator Ted Cruz (@SenTedCruz) July 18, 2019
Cruz introduced the resolution alongside Senator Bill Cassidy on Thursday, citing Antifa’s attacks on Andy Ngo and an ICE detention center last week.
Some states such as New Jersey have already declared Antifa a terrorist organization. However the Federal Government has yet to make such a declaration.
Cruz’s full resolution can be found here.
