A high school teacher in Virginia has found themselves on the chop block after appropriately referring to a female student by her biological sex.
Peter Vlaming was fired from his position at West Point High School in West Point, Virginia “for transgender discrimination on Thursday after he refused to use a student’s preferred pronoun,” according to ABC News.
The decision to fire Vleming was voted upon by the school board, and he was not enthused.
Vleming was quoted as saying, “I won’t use male pronouns with a female student that now identifies as a male though I did agree to use the new masculine name but avoid female pronouns.”
A petition to support Vleming is currently 30 signatures shy of its goal.
