Different people have different approaches to public policy. It is perfectly acceptable to have disagreements. However, those of us who appreciate the freedom to discuss these ideas without violence or coercion should understand that the time we all stand together against the leftist mob is overdue.
Whether they are shutting down conservative-leaning speakers on college campuses, chasing Republican elected officials and other prominent Trump supporters out of restaurants, vandalizing monuments, or trying to prevent a Supreme Court nomination from going forward–one would be burying their head in the sand if they were to think that progressives are pushing us in any other direction than Civil War.
Their hostility has lead to a series of unfortunate events. Congressman Steve Scalise being shot at baseball practice for no other reason than being a Republican, Senator Rand Paul’s wife admitting that she has to sleep with a loaded gun next to her out of fear, and someone like Tucker Carlson–who continuously gives leftists a fair chance at expressing their views on his show–refusing to even go out to restaurants anymore in order to avoid harassment. None of this is acceptable, and these are not isolated incidents.
The rhetoric of many high-ranking Democrats has significantly contributed to these problems. Maxine Waters has encouraged her supporters to “push back” on members of the Trump Administration and let them know they are “not welcome anymore, anywhere.” Hillary Clinton, the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee in 2016, recently said that:
“You cannot be civil with a political party that wants to destroy what you stand for, what you care about. That’s why I believe, if we are fortunate enough to win back the House and/or the Senate, that’s when civility can start again.”
In other words, either they are in power or those they disagree with will be subject to violence and intimidation. This is the dictionary definition of terrorism. It is being embraced, not by people on the fringes of society, but top leaders in the Democratic party.
Mob rule may be the icing on the cake, but it is far from the only valid concern when it comes to the Democrats. They are the party of failed welfare policies, open borders and sanctuary cities, affirmative action, tax hikes, gun control, and the list goes on and on. They clearly did not get the hint when Americans elected Donald Trump in 2016, and they have only gotten crazier since then.
These people are a bigger threat than anything else currently faced by the United States right now. Everyone from moderate liberals, to hardcore libertarians, to staunch Republicans must set aside their differences for the short term in order to defeat the common enemy in the long term. Otherwise, we might as well kiss the mere concept of liberty goodbye.
