The Washington Times reported that the Taliban invited Senator Rand Paul to Qatar for peace talks between the two warring sides. The group cited Rand Paul’s opposition to the war as their reasoning for inviting him on their social media accounts.

The statement read, “We invite the respectable U.S. Senator Rand Paul, in his official capacity to visit our political office in Doha for mutual talks. We’ll prove to Mr. Rand Paul, the immediate US withdrawal from Afghanistan will bring peace to our country & will enhance international security,”

Last week, Paul said “I’m not against a victory celebration. So I propose we declare victory in Afghanistan, bring home our 14,000 troops and hold a victory parade”. In September of last year, President Trump sent an additional 3,000 troops to Afghanistan to continue the seventeen-year-long war.
