Amid controversy over his alleged contact with Russia, President Trump’s National Security Advisor, Michael Flynn, will be resigning from his duty, according to CNN.
“Embattled White House national security adviser Michael Flynn resigned Monday night, two sources tell CNN.
His departure came just after reports surfaced the Justice Department warned the Trump administration last month that Flynn misled administration officials regarding his communications with the Russian ambassador to the United States and was potentially vulnerable to blackmail by the Russians.”
Flynn’s resignation comes just days after it was revealed that he spoke with the Russian government about President Obama’s sanctions back in December of 2016, a month prior to assuming office, after originally telling Vice President Pence that the sanctions were not discussed when he spoke with the Russians.
It is presently unclear who President Trump will choose to replace Flynn as our nation’s National Security Advisor.
