A Utah teacher has come under fire for making a fourth grade student wash his cross off his forehead on Ash Wednesday.
William McLeod, a student at Valley View Elementary School, came into school with the ashes on his forehead, and was the only one in his classroom to bear the Catholic symbol.
His teacher, who has not yet been named, told McLeod that he had to wash it off, and did not care when he said he wanted to keep the ashes on his forehead.
The teacher then brought McLeod a disinfecting wipe and made him remove the ashes.
Speaking with FOX13, his grandmother said, “I asked her if she read the Constitution with the First Amendment, and she said, ‘No.'”
According to Fox News, the teacher apologized to the student, and his grandmother hopes a situation like this won’t happen again.
