President Trump took to twitter to announce that after a diplomatic mission to North Korea by Secretary of state Mike Pompeo, North Korea released three American prisoners. The White House called this a “gesture of goodwill” ahead of a planned historic summit between President Trump and Kim Jong Un.

Although its uncertain where these peace talks will be held since Trump ruled out meeting in the demilitarized zone between North and South Korea, we are hopeful that these talks will bring about further peace talks and a formal peace treaty between the two Koreas.

Of course, talks of peace upset many democrats and neocons who gleefully sat by and watched as the Obama administration dropped 26,171 bombs around the world in one year. Many of these democrats are critical in the President’s ability to continue these peace talks. Rep. Lloyd Doggett believes that there is a chance that these talks can take us closer to war with North Korea. Just last year John McCain said negotiating with North Korea was an odious option but regardless of what neocons and democrats think, these talks are a great thing.

Although Trump is a republican president, its important as libertarians that we recognize anytime a republican or democrat does a good thing. Getting American prisoners back from North Korea is a good thing and these peace talks are a good thing that stress a key libertarian principle of non-aggression and seeking peace with the world.
