In a savage turn of events, Rand Paul has voted against a compromise Senate Republicans hoped would entice the Democrats to keep the government from shutting down by midnight.
This bill would allow the government to remain funded through February 16th of this year. This bill would also include a six-year extension of the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), greatly expanding the welfare state.
The current spending bill on the table would increase the deficit by $700 Billion in 2018 alone. For that reason, Rand Paul has refused to support such a spending bill. Rand Paul seems to be one of the few senators who will not sell you and me into debt slavery.
The Republicans cut taxes in 2017. It’s time for them to take Rand Paul’s advice and cut spending in 2018. Washington is willing to spend money the way they do because they know it isn’t their money. It’s our money. Because of that, they don’t care about the costs. Hopefully this government shut down remains permanent.
