The New York Times has reported that President Trump has fired FBI Director James Comey. Comey has seen criticisms from both sides of the isle, but most recently has been attacked by Democrats for reopening an investigation into Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton just days before the crucial November election, as well as his involvement in investigating potential Russian influence over the election.
In a letter to Comey, President Trump said.
“While I greatly appreciate you informing me, on three separate occasions, that I am not under investigation, I nevertheless concur with the judgment of the Department of Justice that you are not able to effectively lead the bureau… It is essential that we find new leadership for the F.B.I. that restores public trust and confidence in its vital law enforcement mission.”
Comey was leading an investigation into whether or not members of the Trump team colluded with the Russians during the 2016 election.
This is a developing story.
