There is perhaps no bigger warhawk in Washington than the infamous Republican Senator from the state of Arizona, the 80 year old John McCain. A career politician, McCain has been in the Senate for 30 years since succeeding notable conservative icon Barry Goldwater in 1987.
Over the course of his seemingly never ending 30 year career, Senator McCain has been at the helm of the war machine, pushing for conflicts in over a dozen nations in the eastern hemisphere. McCain most recently called for tighter sanctions against Russia after allegations that they interfered in the 2016 US Presidential election.
McCain let his inner neocon roar once again today during Rep. Mick Mulvaney’s (R-SC, Donald Trump’s nomination for the Office of Management & Budget) confirmation hearing before the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs. Completely unrelated to the topic of finances, Senator McCain pressed Mulvaney to answer why he once voted to withdraw all US troops from Afghanistan. “What were you thinking, honestly, when you voted for an immediate withdrawal of all US troops from Afghanistan?” asked McCain.
