Earlier this afternoon, the House of Representatives approved a bill that will permanently ban taxpayer funded abortions, reports LifeNews.com. HR7, the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion and Abortion Insurance Full Disclosure Act of 2017, was started by Rep. Christopher Smith (R-NJ), and passed the House today by a vote of 238-183. Not a single Republican voted against the bill, and all 183 ‘no’ votes came from Democratic representatives.
A short summary of the bill reads as follows:
H.R. 7 prohibits the use of federal funds for abortion or health plans that cover abortion, except in cases of rape, incest, or when the life of the mother is in danger. H.R. 7 prohibits abortions at facilities owned or operated by the federal government, and prevents federal employees from performing abortions within the scope of their employment.
HR7 will now move on to the Senate, and if passed, the White House has affirmed that President Trump will sign off on the bill when it reaches his desk.
The White House has stated, “The Administration strongly supports HR7. If the President were presented with HR7 in its present form, he would sign the bill.”
